Punk Soul! I wasn’t quite familiar with it before, but after hearing Andre Williams & The Hellhounds, it make sense. Andre Williams is often referenced as the father of rap, a multi talented artist and R&B legend, best known for co-writing and producing "Shake a Tailfeather" by the Five Dutones and a greasy solo recording "Bacon Fat," at one time covered by the cramps, where Williams talked over a soul-funky rhythm. The latter is exactly what he does again on “Hear Ya Dance”, although this time the music is provided by punk rockers “The Hellhounds”. “Never Had a problem” is a rendition of the Clash’ “Should I stay or Should I go”. “Pray for your daughter” is pub rock tune and “If you leave me” is best described as Half Tony Joe White , half The Exploited. Rosalie takes us towards an acoustic moment by which I simply can’t put the young ones (the British Comedy series) out of my mind. Hot pick on the album is of course the opening track “Can you deal with it” closely followed by “Your Woman”. This track is a nice mix of funk, soul and garage-punk that simply is genial. Seriously opening track “Can You deal with is” is not a bad question at all. The records mixes true roots with all kinds of young angst and a butt kicking attitude and blends it into something the people at Bloodshot calls Punk Soul. It makes sense and what’s more, we can deal with that ! Mr Blue Boogie.
